Your Word

Love thy neighbor,

You espoused to all,

Which I try to follow.

But …

Why do I feel excluded,

If my thinking deviates,

From forced traditions?

Am I the black sheep,

Called the non-believer,

The outcast for redemption?

So …

Can I trust your word,

Proclaimed long ago,

Handed through generations?

Can I be assured to hope,

My inclusion to forgiveness,

Even if I erred through life?

Can I be considered safe,

Even if my faith differs,

From established ideas of men?

I held you to your promise,

Mercy has no distinction,

For you that’s not impossible.
